Inspired by the traditional Portuguese Caravela boat, this bar stool is a tribute to some of the greatest and bravest in Portuguese History.
Caravela is a small, highly maneuverable sailing ship developed in the 15th century by the Portuguese to explore along the West African coast and into the Atlantic Ocean. The bar stool captures this spirit of adventure and resilience through its bold, clean lines and refined craftsmanship.
Its silhouette is defined by subtle curves that evoke the fluidity of sails in the wind, while the solid wood structure brings to mind the sturdiness of a ship’s hull. The footrest, carefully integrated into the design, offers comfort and support while enhancing the stool’s architectural balance.
Available in a variety of high-quality finishes and upholstery options, and in two heights, the Caravela bar stool blends tradition with contemporary aesthetics. Whether placed in a residential kitchen, a sophisticated bar, or a stylish restaurant, it adds a sense of heritage and elegance to the space.
Rooted in history but designed for today, the Caravela bar stool stands as a graceful yet robust piece that honors the craftsmanship and spirit of Portuguese exploration.
DESIGNER: GONÇALO CAMPOS
Gonçalo Campos is a Portuguese product designer. Graduated in product Design in 2008, he soon after joined Fabrica, Benetton’s communications research centre, in the design studio.
This gave him the chance to work with brands such as Secondome, Seletti or Zanotta. In 2009, he worked in Sam Baron’s studio, after which started developing a series of objects, continuing to explore the possibilities of design through function and material.
Campos prides on finding simple solutions, through the sound use of materials and production methods, in a process that starts from within the object towards the outside.
This results in recognizingly “smart” objects, often with a certain humor; reflex of a relaxed way of thinking and curious attitude.
